8 Ingredients for Delicious Dorito Casserole

Hey buddy, do you like Doritos?

Of course, you do! And I’ve got the catch of the day right here for you! It’s called Dorito Casserole, and it’s one tasty meal.

What is a Dorito Casserole?

The latest food craze in America is a simple dish called Dorito Casserole, which consists of fresh vegetables and spices covered by processed cheese and Nacho chips.

Now, this is a recipe that requires you to use your imagination; not only will your family be impressed with your culinary skills, but they’ll probably ask you how much time you put into making it too. Whether your improvising dorito casserole recipe by making chicken dorito casserole or Mexican dorito casserole.

The truth is that it can be done in just under an hour, start to finish, if you work quickly enough – nobody wants soggy chips. Best to act fast once it comes out of the oven, too; it won’t stay warm for long, so hurry up and dig in!

I love this food. It is so delicious and very easy to make if you have a little time. My friend first made it on her birthday last year, and ever since then, I have been making it all the time. It also makes a perfect leftover dish!

Everyone in my family loves Doritos, from my 2-year-old sister up to my grandfather. Every time we have Doritos as a snack, everyone asks me if there are any more Doritos left because they won’t go away until they’re gone! It is packed with lots of cheese and naturally flavored with Doritos flavor (my dad says).

Although it is not healthy at all, it is a nice change from our usual snacks. I’ve made this casserole many times, and it’s always gone within minutes, especially if I put it in the oven when we’re all gathered for Thanksgiving dinner.

One thing you should know about this casserole is that it can be very spicy depending on how much dorito dust (my favorite part) you add to the recipe. For those of you who don’t like spicy food but still want to make this dish, there’s an easy solution: Use plain chips instead of nacho flavored chips and add your own spices! That way, you get to decide what spice level you want it at.

Another big bonus is that it is incredibly cheap and only requires simple ingredients. So if you’ve been looking for a quick and easy food to make, or if you want to try something new with chips, Dorito Casserole is the perfect dish for you!

Make sure you share it with your friends and family, and I hope everyone enjoys eating (and drinking water) as much as I do.

Who invented the recipe?

The dish was invented by an unnamed man living in San Diego who could not afford groceries. Desperate, he took everything from his cupboards, threw it into a casserole dish, and cooked it all up. The result: Dorito Casserole!

The man says that the ingredients for this cheap and quick dish can be purchased at any store for under $5. And because the dish use only two pots (one for mixing, one for cooking), there’s virtually no clean-up besides throwing away some trash!

  • Total Cost: $1.70 USD
  • Preparation Time: 10 minutes
  • Cooking Time: 25 minutes
  • Total Time: 35 minutes

  • One package of crispy taco flavored Doritos (mine were 160 grams)
  • One small can of diced tomatoes
  • Three tablespoons of butter
  • About 2/3 cup of milk (I used skimmed milk)
  • Half of an onion
  • 1.5 cups of shredded cheese (mine was a blend of Mozzarella, Cheddar, and Monterey Jack Cheeses – feel free to use whatever kind you want/have!)
  • Salt
  • One tablespoon of chili powder (optional but recommended)

Step 1: Take out all chips from the bag and separate them into one layer on top of two paper towels. Place another two paper towels on top. Press down firmly, trying to soak up as much grease as possible. If your chips are too greasy, change paper towels once or twice until they stop soaking up grease like crazy (use five paper towels if needed).

Line baking sheet with aluminum foil, spread out chips, and bake for 10 minutes at 375 degrees. Once they are done, take them out of the oven but keep the oven on!

Step 2: While chips are baking, take out a large pot (preferably deep to prevent overflow later) and melt butter. Finely chop half of an onion, then place into pot with two tablespoons of chili powder (add more or less depending on your spice preference).

Until clear, then add diced tomatoes. Stir until it breaks down completely. Then pour in 1 cup of milk (or whatever amount you think will be enough to dissolve all ingredients completely. I didn’t use a full one cup), stir, and let it simmer for about five minutes.

Step 3: Grease the baking pan with butter or cooking spray. Add all chips into the pot, stir until completely covered in sauce, and remove all excess grease (there will probably be a lot). Be sure to let as much grease drain out as possible – otherwise, this dish will end up way too greasy.

Step 4: Pour chips into the baking pan, then sprinkle cheese into the whole top layer of the chips. I like to do this step after because it gives me time to spread out the cheese evenly instead of just dumping it on haphazardly before putting it in the oven.

Bake at 375 degrees for about 20 minutes, or until cheese is bubbling and starts to turn brownish-yellow. Let it cool for 5 minutes before serving.

The end result should be cheesy and spicy, with crunchy chips and a hint of buttery-tomato flavor. This is a classic Dorito Casserole recipe which anyone will eat and enjoy! It’s great as leftovers too! I usually serve this with a side salad and some fruit or my Peach Cobbler Recipe. With the variety of flavors and textures in this casserole, kids and adults alike can’t resist its cheesy goodness.

The best thing about Dorito casseroles is you can make up your own dorito casserole recipes. Add chicken to make some chicken dorito casserole, or add some Mexican salsa for Mexican dorito casserole. Whatever leftover you can find on the fridge, experiment on it; just use your common sense if what your putting will actually taste good.
